About The Owner
The Key Magazine’s founder, Ray Lewis Sr., has lifelong ties to SC, NC, and GA. His wife of 43 years is from the Upstate and he has spent his life in South Carolina. Ray has been in the printing and advertising business for over 50 years and has accomplished a lot.
Ray has lived fully in his 71 years and conducted business in all 3 states (NC, SC and GA) for over 40 years so Ray is very knowledgeable about the South. He served in both the Marines and the Army before getting into the publishing business. After working for the Mayor of Jamestown, Tennessee, he gained valuable contacts in city and local government and went on to publish books for non-profits and souvenir books for the city of Colombia in South Carolina.
Ray has served in the Army and the Marines before getting into the advertising and publishing business. At one time, he worked with the mayor of Jamestown, TN Where he made great contacts and learned a lot about printing and advertising. He made valuable contacts and soon moved back to Columbia, SC where he published souvenir books for baseball and football leagues with the parks and Recreation Dept. After that, advanced his skills and experience in Ad sales and print magazines for non-profits and different organizations. Ray finally moved to Greenville, SC were his wife of 43 years was from and started The Key To The South Magazine. After 12 years, he decided that there needed to be a Tri-State magazine that covered the NC, SC and GA areas because these three states are connected by families and businesses.
Ray’s early success gave Ray the knowledge and confidence to self-publish this newest project. Ray sees an opportunity in the Upstate with its booming tourism industry. While visiting other cities in the Carolinas best known for their tourism, he met with leaders in the tourism industry. The result of his research was the conclusion that the Upstate needed a publication leading visitors and residents to the best restaurants, motels, shopping, art, museums, and night life. Ray decided to build a magazine based on the past success of other local publications. Starting with nothing but an idea and a battery of information, Ray is making himself and The Key Magazine a part of the community.
